Granite Tile Counter
Granite is a beautiful natural very hard stone used for kitchen counter tops, monuments, sculptures, floor tiles and a granite tile counter as well as many other uses where stone is favored. The ancient Egyptians recognized the beauty of granite thousands of years ago and used it to make the pyramids of their pharaohs and other persons of status and means. They also used it in their homes as floor tiles. As an aside, we have heavy machinery today to cut the granite into squares and desired configurations. One wonders how the ancient Egyptians did it without today’s machinery.
Granite is used today in the house and particularly on countertops. In some instances the homeowner may prefer a solid slab of granite on the countertop but there is an alternative. That alternative is a granite tile counter. A solid slab of granite can be very costly and extremely heavy to apply. Tiles, on the other hand, are easier to handle and can be applied as you would apply ceramic tile. You can use granite tiles to cover and entire counter or you can place on large stone in the center of a counter with smaller granite tiles surrounding it. This larger tile can be used whenever a slick hard surface is needed, as in rolling out dough. It would not be a good piece to cut meat or vegetables on
A granite tile counter is less expensive than a solid slab granite countertop and comes in many beautiful colors. If you have a certain color scheme you want for your kitchen you can get granite tiles to match it or contrast the color. By using tiles rather than a slab of granite you have the option of designing your countertop. You can set the tiles as squares or diamond shapes or both using the squares in the center and diamonds at the edges of the countertop. The color combination and designs are limited only by your imagination. A variation of the countertop design can be carried over to the floor using the thicker granite floor tile.
