After glaze Firing Ceramics..?
i have that ring around the bottom of my pottery where there’s no glaze (so that the pottery didnt stick to the kiln shelf), but i want to use the bowls and stuff i made and was wondering if there’s something dishwasher and microwave safe i could use to seal the raw clay part
any ideas?
Unless you’re firing your body to its fully vitrified state, your plate isn’t going to be dishwasher or microwave safe. If you’re throwing your own ware, you need to be using something like a stoneware body to get there. If you’re using earthenware or someone else’s bisque, you’re not going to be able to get to fully vitrified.
You can make your stuff last a little longer by glazing the foot, and firing the piece supported by stilts. Instead of the whole foot being exposed, you will have three small points where pins supported the ware, outside the foot on the rim of the piece.
You can get stilts here:

You will need to do separate bisque and glost fires for your pieces. You will also be slightly limited with the piece geometries you can support on stilts.
If you want an easy test to see if your piece is fully dense, take a (smooth) broken edge of your piece and touch your tongue to it. If it has any porosity, you will feel the capillary action pulling your tongue into the piece. If it is fully dense, you will just feel it touching your tongue.
