forward facing car seat question?

this is the car seat we have. my son is now 12 months and 20 1/2 lbs. we do not have the guide for this car seat. anyone know how to make it forward facing the correct way? thanks

At 20lbs, he needs to STAY REAR FACING! 20lbs and 1year is the absolute minimum for when you can turn a child forward facing. Babies should stay rear facing as long as possible, to the weight/height limit of their seat. The reason is that children’s bones take a long time to go through the ossification process that hardens and molds their bones together, until they’re further in that process, they are too vulnerable to be front facing in a crash. He is safest rear facing, keep him that way until he is too big for his seat.

That seat will hold a child up to 30lbs/32 inches, whichever comes first. Make sure that the shoulder straps are still at or below his shoulders, if his shoulders move past the top slots, he’s too big for the seat. If his head goes over the top of the seat, he’s too big for it. If neither of those is true and he’s still less than 30lbs, keep using the seat. But it is ONLY a rear facing seat. It does not do forward facing at all.

So, when he does outgrow the seat (not yet) you will need to purchase another seat, most likely a convertible seat that will do both rear and forward facing, or if he’s at least 2 years old and 30lbs or more, you can get a seat that does only forward facing. But you likely have a while to research the next seat, as it could be over 6 months still until you need the next step seat.
