Double pane or single pane with original woodwork?
I am starting the process of buying a home. I love craftsman houses from the 1910′ and 1920′s. I love it when I see a place that has the original wood trimmings around the windows. I have a few questions about it:
Can double pane windows be added while keeping the original trim?
Where can I find estimates in energy used to heat a house with either type of windows?
What can be done to keep stained/beveled glass windows but reduce energy usage?
Check into “E” window……they say these are the best energy type. Double paned windows are very good. Regarding original trim I’d check some window companies in your area, most companies will give you answers and not charge you to ask. Your energy companies should have some of the answers regarding energy use as well as window installing companies. Back up your stained windows with a solid pane of glass to reduce energy usage.
